Meet Dr. Bass

Dr. Thomas Bass, MD, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in bariatric surgery and advance laparoscopic surgery with over 20 years of experience.  Dr. Bass received his MD from the Medical College of Virginia and completed his surgical residency training at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center at Pennsylvania State University. In addition, he completed fellowships in both Surgical Critical Care and Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Bass began his general surgery career in Hollywood, FL as a trauma surgeon before moving on to start his own general surgery practice specializing in advanced laparoscopic surgery and bariatric surgery. He began the first bariatric surgery program and American Society For Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery in Hollywood, FL. Upon expanding his surgical practice to Southwest Florida, he was instrumental in starting a bariatric surgery program in Naples and serves as the bariatric surgery medical director at Physicians Regional Medical Center which is an American College of Surgeons/ ASMBS MBSQIP accredited center in metabolic and bariatric surgery.

Thomas Bass, MD. is passionate about helping patients change their lives.

His interest in becoming a weight loss surgeon began during his minimally invasive surgery fellowship, where he witnessed first-hand the life-changing effects of surgery. His passion for helping patients change their lives through surgical weight loss continues. His goal is to provide patients with a surgical tool as well the resources for them to make a new lifestyle for a lifetime. He currently performs weight loss surgery operations at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Ft. Myers, FL and Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples, FL.

Dr. Bass is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.

In Dr. Bass’s spare time, he and his wife enjoy participating in pointing dog- horseback field trials with their Brittanys and Tennessee Walking horses and living an active outdoor lifestyle.
