Have you ever sabotaged your own weight loss progress? This is a fairly common problem, and it can really help to recognize when you may be doing it. How do you know if you are sabotaging your efforts? One way is to be aware of when you are deliberately putting yourself in a situation where you know it will be difficult to maintain your weight loss goals. For example, if you always “cheat” when you go to an Italian restaurant, avoiding them may be a part of your strategy for losing weight. So if you suddenly decide to go to a pizza place with a friend, you are probably self-sabotaging.
Another way you can undermine your weight loss goals is by going to the grocery store without a list. This will put you in the position of having to decide at the store what foods you want to buy. It instantly becomes more difficult to eat well when you are allowing yourself the variety of choices when you are in the aisle. Basically, self sabotage means giving yourself the opportunity to go off the plan, or putting yourself in a situation where you know you will be tempted–and probably give in. If you can stick to your goals, you simply won’t have these kinds of issues.
