Bonita Springs and Cape Coral
There aren’t very many designated bike trails in the Bonita Springs and Cape Coral areas of Florida. Of course, like any part of Florida, you can easily ride your bicycle along most streets, in any park and on most boardwalks without much hassle. Still, for those who are more comfortable with a designated area in which to cycle, even the Bonita Springs and Cape Coral area has one park.
Lover’s Key: Lover’s Key is a park located on a barrier island. In addition to the shelling and hiking you can enjoy on any barrier island, Lover’s Key also has a biking trail. Although it is an island, it is still accessible by foot or car so you may even decide to ride your bike to the trail.
Biking on a barrier island is a fun and often awe inspiring experience. Be sure to help your day remain fun by wearing a helmet and sunscreen throughout the day. Sunburns can happen very quickly, even on overcast days, so be sure to reapply your sunscreen as often as the bottle suggests. Make sure you also carry some bottled water with you so that you do not become dehydrated.
St. Petersburg
The First Avenue North and South City Trails: These are great places to get out and bike. A combination of trail and bike lanes, they connect the well-known Pinellas Trail with St. Petersburg. Since these trails are well-traveled and popular, you will probably want to brush up on your hand signals and make sure that your bike has reflectors so that you are visible to other cyclists on the road before you go. This is especially true if you intend on going out near dawn or dusk. After all, a safe trip is an enjoyable one.
Boyett Park: This area was once an old phosphate mine and it consists of a series of loops which are primarily meant for mountain bikers. Beginners will enjoy the 13 miles that are blazed just for them.
In addition to these areas there are also many designated bike lanes in this region, providing people with a safe opportunity to use this method of transportation to get around if they so choose. Biking is a great way to get some exercise in during the day. You can run errands on your bike, or simply take a spin in the morning before you go to work. The amount of exertion can vary depending on how you are feeling, and you can change it up whenever you feel like it.
